Hamilton Sargent - Counselling in Clapham SW4
About the Therapist
I'm Hamilton and I help individuals to navigate challenging relationships with self and others within inclusive, accepting counselling from the heart.
- Does a relationship in your life feel strained, at breaking point or distant - maybe with a partner/s, parent, family member, work colleague, or friend?
- Are you feeling let down or betrayed by someone who you trusted?
- Is a relationship causing you stress and anxiety, or low self-esteem?
- Perhaps you're finding that a relationship, family issues or a past experience still impacts you today, no matter how hard you try to move on.
- Maybe you're noticing repeated patterns in your relationships or it's your relationship with yourself that gets you down.
If any of this is your experience you don’t need to be in this alone. I've seen over and over how talking to someone can help.
Relationships can be sources of love, support and acceptance, but for many LGBTQIA+ folks they can also bring a range of feelings and experiences that can be incredibly difficult such as rejection, judgment and pain. If you need support navigating a relationship breakdown or breakup, or turbulence with anyone in your life, I have a lot of experience working with this, alongside many other issues
It's ok to feel confused, daunted or uncertain. You may be feeling confused around where to begin as you look for help and a therapist. You may also know that something doesn't feel quite right but feel uncertain about what you need. These are all valid feelings, and I appreciate that beginning therapy might feel intimidating. My intention is to make your journey into therapy as held, accessible, and straight-forward as I can!

How therapy can help you
Alongside the joy, liberation and self-empowerment being true to yourself can bring, living as or questioning if you are an LGBTQIA+ person in today's social and political climate can also be incredibly difficult. You may be impacted frequently by negativity in your life, the news, social media and feel frightened by threats to your rights, safety and wellbeing. If this is your experience, this may feel exhausting and relentless.
Identifying myself as LGBTQIA+, I care greatly about supporting LGBTQIA+ folks. Our work together could be about understanding and exploring aspects of your identity and experiences around this, along with how relationships are impacted by this. Though it may be that, whatever you wish to explore, just knowing I identify as LGBTQIA+ myself makes therapy an even safer space and you don't have to be burdened with educating me.
In our sessions, you may:
- Improve your mental health and emotional wellbeing, and get relief from your distress and concerns.
- Explore your identities and experiences, learning to honour who you are and to live authentically.
- Develop greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-empowerment.
- Make sense of, process and heal from past and potentially traumatic experiences.
- Understand and develop how how you engage, connect and communicate with others and the world around you.
- Learn to recognise, articulate and honour your own needs, and to live life on your own terms.
- Identify ways of living that no longer serve you, and work to change these, if you wish to.
- Find ways to move forward that make sense to you.
I will be your supportive companion on your journey of self-discovery
Working with me, you will have safe and accepting space to just be you, and to share your concerns confidentially at your own pace. You are able to talk, think, process, discover, feel uncertain, cry, get angry, laugh and even be creative! Our sessions will be free of expectations, and however you're feeling and wherever you're at will always be welcome. I believe in keeping therapy human.
I see your uniqueness, diverse identities and experiences as aspects of you to celebrate and cherish
Within my practice, I offer trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirmative, anti-racist, disability and neurodiverse aware counselling, which centres your unique experiences and needs at all points.
Other key areas of my practice
Working with high achievers and perfectionism
If you are a high achiever, but in the busyness and demands on your lives, have lost your sense of self, and your own needs and wants have been diminished, this is familiar territory in my counselling practice. You may find this involves perfectionism and holding yourself to high standards. Together we can seek to understand this, and support you to make changes to re-centre yourself in your life.
Working creatively
Whilst traditional talking therapy can be helpful, there are many ways we can express ourselves and as humans, we have been doing so for millennia. If you wish, I can support you to use drawing, writing, objects in the sand, music and more to express and understand your experiences more deeply.

Research consistently shows that one of the most important factors for effective therapy is how strong the therapeutic relationship is.
