Hayden Stothard
About the Therapist
Hi, I'm Hayden and I offer an open and judgement free space to explore whatever’s going on for you. I have worked with a wide variety of people in previous NHS roles since 2006, as well as over the last 5 years in private practice.
As a Cognitive Analytic Therapist (CAT Therapist), we can work together on identifying and changing stuck relational patterns that you get into with other people. These can be with your work colleagues, your friends, family, or indeed your intimate relationships. But often, the most important relationship we will work on will be your relationship with yourself.
I welcome and work with people from all backgrounds, but as a gay man myself, I also know that it can be helpful sometimes to find a therapist who has a personal understanding of this. I am therefore also available to work with people who are gay, bisexual or questioning of their sexuality.Â

Cognitive Analytic Therapist (often referred to as a CAT Therapist)
I am fully accredited with the UK Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT). You can search my name here.
Registered Mental Health & Learning Disability Nurse
I am additionally registered with the UK Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). You can search this register here.
Other Approaches:
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is an integrative model, so it may be helpful to incorporate some techniques from other therapies in our work together.
While I don't offer these as standalone therapies, I am additionally qualified in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and I'm familiar with many Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques.

What makes Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) different?
We focus on exploring the root cause of your problems and where they stem from, rather than spending all of the time on managing your symptoms.Â
By exploring your history, we create a personalised therapy map to guide you through these relationships, increasing your awareness and setting goals that you can work on in between sessions.
Sometimes people worry about how or where to begin. I will help you get the most from your sessions by asking you questions or sharing my thoughts or feelings about what we discuss. This way, we can build a real, trusting therapist and patient relationship to make the work safe, but also hopefully lighthearted when you need it.
