Matei Dudu
About the Therapist
My name is Matei and I am a Systemic Family Psychotherapist with more than 18 years of experience working across healthcare, third sector and private practice settings. In therapy, I prioritise creating a space that feels safe, warm, welcoming and non-judgmental. I value building trust and working collaboratively to develop a deep understanding of what is currently causing distress.
In our work together, I focus on present-day issues as well as relevant past experiences, while emphasising what changes might help you move forward. I aim to understand your individual story, strengths and the wider context in which difficulties have developed, rather than viewing experiences as ‘pathological’ or ‘dysfunctional’. My goal is to offer a stable and consistent therapeutic environment to support you through times of change and uncertainty.

In therapy we will explore present-day concerns, personal and family history, significant relationships, relationship difficulties, cultural contexts, identities, transitions and sources of stress. I have extensive experience supporting children and adults with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, low mood, self-harm and bereavement, as well as neurodiversity including autism and ADHD.
I also specialise in relationship-related stress, including family conflict, relationship difficulties, estrangement, and the impact of mental and physical health on relationships. I am designated as Highly Specialist in gender care, supporting people to explore gender identity, navigate gender reassignment decisions and address related issues with partners and family.
My practice is informed by social justice principles, and I am invested in queer and trans people reclaiming therapy as a non-oppressive space. I am also interested in the body–mind connection and how stress and trauma affect both mental and physical health.
