Dr Richard Waterman (he/him)
About the Therapist
I’ve specialised in helping lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (including non -binary, genderqueer, gender fluid etc.) people explore and accept their gender and sexuality since 2014. As a queer man, I know how difficult and isolating it is to feel different, but not have the words to talk to family or friends about it. This is why I predominantly work with people from the LGBTQI++ community to explore and own who they are, in safety, and without judgment.
I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC: PYL040332), am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) where I am a member of the section for Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity.
I have worked in mental health since 2014 in the NHS and privately. During this time, I have worked in the following areas: Complex Trauma, Transgender Health, Child & Adolescent Mental Health, Medical Psychology, Adult Community Mental Health, Acute Liaison, Memory Assessment, Older People’s Community Mental Health, Adult Eating Disorders, and OCD.
I am currently accepting new online therapy clients.Â
Send me an email and we can arrange an initial Teams call, without charge, to spend an initial 15 minutes talking to see if we could work together.

During our sessions, we will work together to build an understanding of what approach and tools you need, and we will agree how best to make our sessions feel safe, respectful, supportive, and non-judgmental. I will offer you a safe space to look at things from different perspectives, to open yourself up to the opportunity to live your life differently.
For example, some people have ideas and beliefs that they have heard from others and have taken to be the truth, but is actually only someone else’s opinion. We can work together to unpick this and to build a firm understanding that there is a difference between what other’s may have thought and said about you, and what you know to be true about yourself.
