Nate Speare (Online Therapy)
About the Therapist
Hello, my name is Nate (he/him). I am a UKCP-registered psychotherapist offering LGBTQ+ affirmative psychotherapy online. As a Queer therapist, I recognise the importance of working in ways that feel emotionally safe, culturally informed, and affirming of complexity and difference. My practice is grounded in anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive ways of working.
I aim to provide a reflective and collaborative space where you can think openly about your experiences, relationships, sexuality, identity, and emotional life. I believe the therapeutic relationship itself can become an important part of understanding patterns of intimacy, shame, self-protection, vulnerability, or disconnection that may emerge both within therapy and elsewhere in life.
I have extensive experience working with sexuality and intimacy, sexual health and HIV, psychosexual concerns, compulsive sexual behaviour, drug and alcohol issues, and the long-term impact of trauma and difficult early relational experiences.
Alongside private practice, I currently work psychotherapeutically within specialist NHS mental health services and have a longstanding background in NHS sexual health services. I originally qualified with the BACP in 2013 and qualified with the UKCP in 2024. I have also completed doctoral training in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy and am awaiting formal conferment.
Starting therapy can feel exposing, particularly if you have struggled to feel understood elsewhere. I aim to offer a compassionate, thoughtful, and non-judgemental space where we can explore what feels difficult at a pace that feels manageable for you. You are welcome to reach out if this way of working resonates with you.

I work from a relational and integrative perspective, with a particular interest in identity, sexuality, intimacy, trauma, and recurring relational patterns. Alongside relational psychodynamic psychotherapy, I draw integratively from humanistic, existential, and third-wave CBT approaches where appropriate.
I offer both shorter and longer-term therapy. Some clients come with a particular issue or focus in mind, while others seek a more open-ended and exploratory space to understand emotional difficulties, relationships, or the impact of earlier experiences.
My work includes extensive experience with LGBTQ+ clients and Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity (GSRD), including sexuality and intimacy, HIV, psychosexual concerns, compulsive sexual behaviour, shame, trauma, and the impact of difficult early or relational experiences on present patterns of connection and emotional life.
Therapy with me is collaborative, thoughtful, and paced according to your needs. Alongside reflection and exploration, I may also draw on humour, metaphor, and imaginative or symbolic thinking where helpful. I aim to create a space where all parts of yourself can be brought without fear of judgement.
