Dr Amanda Nyman (in-person)
About the Therapist
I'm a queer, agender and polyamorous counselling psychologist with a special interest in working with clients from the gender, sexuality and relationship diverse community. I volunteered with the LGBT Health and Wellbeing Glasgow counselling service as part of my psychologist training.
My doctoral research focused on the psychological health and therapeutic experiences of those who identify with diverse sexualities beyond lesbian, gay and bisexual, including, but not limited to, asexual, pansexual, demisexual, queer or questioning indviduals as well as those who use multiple labels, move between labels or use no labels at all.
I work online and in-person at my new offices located at Waterloo Chambers (19 Waterloo Street, G2 6AY) near Glasgow Central station. I offer sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and I have appointments from early morning to the afternoon and select evenings. Let me know your availability and I will do my best to accommodate you.

I am trained in person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapy, but I draw on ideas from other approaches such as emotion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and compassion focused therapy.
I have experience working with a wide range of mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence and chronic health conditions, as well as issues around identity, shame and self-acceptance. I consider myself sex-positive and welcome explorations around sexuality and/or kink.
I am committed to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice which to me means adopting a stance of curiosity and welcome towards that which is unknown or different from me. I strive to continue to develop and learn as a psychologist including engaging in regular professional development activities.
Grounded in a humanistic approach, I believe the relationship between the client and the therapist is vital for therapy to be successful and that no 'one-size fits all'. Guided by your preferences and goals, my experience and the psychological research available, we will create a therapeutic experience together that works for your unique person.
