About the Therapist
Who am I as a therapist, separate from my approach to counselling and what I can offer you? It feels unusual to be prompted to write about me, as in our sessions it is always about you.
I consider myself a gentle person, if slightly eccentric. I’m full of warmth and compassion for others. I have moved around a lot in my life and experienced some very difficult times, from which I’ve grown as a person, been liberated from my past and found ways to better understand myself and other people. It is from these difficult times that led me to move my focus from being an artist to wanting to help/support other people. I am passionate about this.
When not counselling, you will find me out walking whenever possible, preferably in hills. I love nature; greenness, forests, bleak moors, stormy skies. It makes me feel very alive. I love being playful and silly too, it’s a very human quality which even as adults we need to incorporate into our lives.

I am constantly growing and expanding my knowledge and expertise through CPD, training and workshops.
I have regular monthly supervision.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work with adults (18+), both online and in-person sessions based in York.
My integrative approach blends person-centred talking therapy, somatic therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, parts work, creative arts, warmth and compassion, diversity, humanness and life experiences.
Sessions often include gentle explorations of childhood and relationships with significant people in your life (both past and present) and significant events/experiences you’ve had, whilst looking at how life feels now in terms of relationships, sense of who you are and how you respond to self/people/situations.
I include somatic exercises to enable a feeling of safety in your body both physically and emotionally. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps prevent you getting all tangled up in intrusive/recurring negative thoughts and feelings, and instead creates a sense of healthy distance from those thoughts, mindfulness and inner peace.
Parts work (think of the film 'Inside Out') works beautifully with the other approaches, and enables an embodied, deep, meaningful relationship with self; a understanding of where you've been, where you are now in life and how you want to move forward in a way which feels truly authentic and true to your core being.
Aside from my ongoing private practice, I have past experience of working in a GP practice as a counsellor and also currently support people going through breast cancer in the NHS.
