Over the years I’ve worked with people experiencing emotional distress as a counsellor, support worker and aromatherapist. I try to be aware of my privilege and how this might affect our counselling relationship. As a queer non-binary person, finding a counsellor I could trust and be understood by has helped me to get in touch with my own strength, to connect with who I really am, and to find my way through difficult and traumatic life events. I am passionate about counselling and what I have to offer to clients. Having our sexuality, gender or relationship misunderstood by a counsellor
Hi there, I’m Peter. Thanks a lot for taking a look at my profile. I am a practicing Psychotherapist and professional member of the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists, the Health and Care Professions Council, and the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists. I have diverse experience of working in NHS, educational and charity sector clinical services, and particular expertise in working with Mental Health, Sex and Relationships, Substance Use, LGBTQI+ issues, and their intersections.
I identify as neurodivergent, non-binary, transgender, queer, and am in occasional non-monogamous relationships. I am also a Body Psychotherapist, focusing on the physical-emotional experience of gender-diverse folk: queer, trans, non-binary, and anyone exploring their gender identity. The realization I wanted to be a therapist came when I “woke up” and reconnected with my gender identity as a transgender & non-binary person. I then realized I wanted to help others going through their gender journeys while also facing a sometimes hostile world.
If it feels vulnerable going into therapy, you’re not alone. Sometimes we only make it to therapy once something has become so uncomfortable and awful, or the people around us are losing such a huge amount of patience with us, that we think – ok. I’d like the worst of this to stop. But- nothing major. Just take the edge off the pain, please. An inch off. A trim. What we may not expect is that, through therapy, you find the courage to hear the message in your mess. And pain, when it is processed, becomes your superpower.
