Carlie Pottington Counselling Online
About the Therapist
I'm Carlie, an experienced BACP-accredited therapist offering in-person and online sessions. I specialise in working with Gender, Sexuality and Relationship diversity. My therapeutic practice is defined by a relational way of being, built on warmth, creativity, compassion, integrity and humour. I stay alongside you, to support you in setting the pace and tone of counselling.
I believe therapy can be a space to focus on understanding your challenges and barriers, to explore how you experience the world. This can enable you to understand the internal conflicts and unhelpful patterns which might hold you back. The relationship you have with your therapist is fundamental to the success of therapy.
This highlights the importance for members of the LGBTQIA+ community to work with a therapist who is well informed of the specific challenges LGBTQIA+ people face. I understand the impact living in a heteronormative, cisnormative, mononormative and allonormative society can have on people, bringing up feelings of otherness and shame. I am also aware that the reasons for coming to therapy may not be directly linked to your sexuality, gender identity or relationship style.I take a holistic approach to understanding all of who you are. I specialise in trauma, sexual identity, gender identity, self-esteem, loss, bereavement, relationship issues, anxiety and depression.
I am also running a small group programme specifically to support the bi+ community. The course is for anyone who identifies as bisexual, pansexual, plurisexual, queer, fluid, unlabelled or questioning. The course aims to help members of this community explore their attraction to multiple genders, improve their wellbeing, connect to their authenticity and connect with other members of the bi+ community. If you are interested in signing up for the course, please check my website: www.thebiway.com.
