Cat Johnston - Supervisor and Counsellor
About the Therapist
My name is Cat and I have been working with Gender and Sexual Diversity since qualifying as a counsellor in 2014. Alongside counselling, I also have previous experience as a youth worker, organising and facilitating groups for LGBTQ+ young people, and have extensive experience working for the NSPCC. I work with all individuals from age 12, and have a particular interest in working with young people. I am also a supervisor and trainer with a focus on Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diversity.
*April 2025* Please note, I currently only have space to take on new supervisees - I do not currently have space for new clients.Â

I work from a humanistic, person-centred foundation and have additional training and experience in Single Session Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have a particular interest in Compassion Focused Therapy - nurturing compassion for yourself and others, and challenging feelings of shame and self-judgement.Â
I believe in taking a pluralistic approach recognising that different approaches, different things will be helpful to different people at different points in their life. No one size fits all and I will always work to support you as an individual. I work in a relaxed, friendly way and welcome all parts of who you are including humour and creativity.Â
I have particular experience in working with suicidal ideation, self-harm, young people who are care experienced, gender identity, trauma, mental health diagnoses, abuse, and self-esteem.Â
In Supervision, I enjoy working with both students and experienced practitioners. I offer a safe space for reflection, learning, and challenge while providing support, encouragement, and guidance for ongoing development. If you would like to have an informal chat about the possibility of working together, please do get in touch.Â
