Dr Iulian Chear
About the Therapist
I am a UKCP registered Existential Psychotherapist, and I graduated with a professional doctorate from NSPC. My research on crossdressing delves into issues such as power, history, sexuality, gender, identity and their connection with existential themes such as being, (in)authenticity, (lack of) freedom and meaning. This is also mirrored within my private practice where I work with people at the intersection between gender, sexuality, neurodiversity, race/ethnicity, social class, faith and (dis)ability, and the social, personal and political context people find themselves in.
I welcome working with diversity and difference in whatever shape or form it comes.Â
I provide a safe, engaging and supportive space for you to explore any issue that is troubling you, face-to-face in Bristol and online. Psychotherapy can help you transform and reinvent yourself, connect and discover yourself, understand and accept yourself. The ultimate goal would be to help you create a more meaningful life and new ways of approaching your relationship with yourself and others.

I prefer to work in a flexible, client-centred and integrative manner, drawing from different approaches and techniques (starting with my core modality: phenomenology and existentialism) depending on our therapeutic process and your preferences. It begins by learning who and how you are, and then collaboratively we can shape ways in which you can grow, heal and evolve.
For the last couple of years, I have enjoyed working as a psychotherapist across a variety of settings including the NHS, the voluntary sector and in private practice, providing both short-term and long-term therapy. I have worked with depression and anxiety as part of Talking Therapies in the NHS; with bereavement and loss in London, with LGBTQ+ related issues as part of Support U in Reading, and as a general counsellor for young people at No5. During this time, I have been fortunate to work with a diversity of clients (including asylum seekers, refugees, students and LGBTQIA+/ GSRD clients) presenting a wide range of issues and difficulties.
