About the Therapist
Over my years working as a therapist I have worked with hundreds of trans and gender-questioning people, from all kinds of backgrounds. You - like each of them, and me - have a unique identity and life situation. And we also share commonalities; we want live with a sense of confidence in who we are, and how we want to be seen by ourselves and others. We want to face life's big decisions with as much clarity as possible. We want to live fully and with a sense of our value. We want to be understood by ourselves and feel recognised by others.
My work is focused on providing a secure relationship and a warm, reflective, open minded space where your unique identity and life situation can be fully explored. As part of this we will navigate these fundamental matters of emotional well-being to open the way to a more confident, valued and fulfilling relationship with yourself, others and the life available to you.
I offer both one to one gender specialist psychotherapy and clinical supervision for other therapists working with trans and gender diverse communities. I am a Clinical Associate of Pink Therapy and author of The Trans Compass, a therapeutic tool for helping therapists understand the varied landscapes of trans people's emotional lives (published in Relationally Queer: A Pink Therapy Guide for Practitioners).

My experience of supporting people who are trans and/or gender questioning goes back a long way - before working in private practice I was the director of an LGBT Mental Health Service in Scotland and I co-authored a range of publications to improve well-being research around trans people and widen trans access to health services.
I completed my psychotherapy training in 2011 with Stirling University and my Clinical Supervision training with the Contemporary Institute for Clinical Sexology in 2024. My approach is broadly person-centred, but I also incorporate aspects of other therapeutic perspectives when helpful. I am particularly experienced in working with neuro-divergent clients and I work collaboratively with clients to flex my therapeutic style to suit them best, for example working in a more or less structured way.
Outside of therapy, I previously served as co-chair of the trans led organisation TransBareAll, and I am currently a Board Director for Innovative Arts Project (IAP), who deliver LGBTQ+ arts initiatives.
