Emma Macey
About the Therapist
My name is Emma and I am a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with over ten years of experience.
I offer a warm, thoughtful and collaborative therapeutic space where we can explore what has brought you to therapy and what might support meaningful change. My approach is compassionate and relational, and together we develop a shared understanding of your experiences, relationships and patterns so we can identify ways forward that feel manageable and authentic.
I welcome people from all walks of life, including those from LGBTQIA+, gender, sexual and relationship diverse (GSRD) communities. I am queer myself, and I recognise how important it can be to work with a therapist who understands the complexities of identity, belonging and navigating systems that are not always designed with us in mind.
My practice is kink-aware and non-monogamy affirming, and I work with people who are part of polyamorous, consensually non-monogamous and BDSM/kink communities, offering a space that is curious, respectful and free from assumptions about relationships or identity.

I have over a decade of experience supporting people with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties across NHS services and specialist settings.
My work is grounded in evidence-based psychological therapies, and I adapt approaches to the needs of each individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model. My work draws on approaches including:
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)
Relational and systemic perspectives
People come to therapy for many different reasons. I often work with people exploring:
Identity and belonging
Relationship and intimacy difficulties
Anxiety, stress and low mood
Shame and self-criticism
Life transitions and work-related challenges
Minority stress and experiences of marginalisation
Alongside this work, I also have experience supporting people who have experienced trauma or adverse life events. Where helpful, we can use structured, evidence-based approaches to process difficult experiences in a focused and collaborative way.
I will also be undertaking EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) training between May and December, which will further develop my trauma-focused practice.

I offer a sliding scale for session prices. Average session price is £100 per 50 minute session.
I also aim to keep a small number of reduced-fee spaces available for people on low or no income, recognising that financial barriers can make accessing therapy difficult. These spaces are limited but I encourage you to ask about availability.
While I am completing my EMDR training between May and December, I will also be offering a limited number of lower-cost sessions for clients wishing to engage in EMDR work during my training period.
