Howard Winfield-Mackenzie
About the Therapist
I am a queer, neuro-divergent, HCPC-registered integrative Counselling Psychologist.Â
I work with a diverse range of people who are struggling in their lives in some way. They may or may not know why they feel the way they do - we explore this together. My clients have often experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, or the compounding effects of just being "different" from wider oppressive systems and structures of power (e.g., LGBTQ+, race, disability, neurodiversity, socioeconomic status, religious/spiritual expression). We explore your experiences and identities safely to help you feel more yourself.
The major benefit of therapy is that it is your space without any expectations to 'perform'. This can be both powerful and vulnerable. As such, I am patient, transparent, open and accountable in how I receive you and your identities. I will always strive to listen to what you need, take responsibility for my actions in building and maintaining our relationship, and will ensure that therapy feels safe and positive for you.
More specifically, I have experience working with the difficulties associated with gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, sexuality, shame, trauma, complex trauma, sexual abuse, dissociation, self-harm, depression, ADHD, autism, HIV/AIDS issues, disabilities (both hidden and visible), chronic fatigue, and anxiety disorders.Â
You may or may not know what's troubling you - we will work together to explore this.Â

Therapy
My aim is to offer a high quality, ethical and confidential service which is as accessible to as many people as possible. Having worked in the NHS as a Counselling Psychologist, I know how challenging accessing therapy can be. As such, I offer a tiered system of fees. The equalising rate is for anyone who has the means (and would like) to pay more for therapy. Anything paid above the Standard rate is offset against my Accessible rate to make therapy more affordable for others. You are by no means expected to nor pressured into paying what you cannot afford. I do not means test you, rather this system is based on open discussion and trust.
Standard rate
£60/hr
Equalising rate
£62-80/hr
Accessible rate
£45/hr
If you would like to access my service but cannot afford the Accessible rate, please discuss this with me. We may be able to make sessions fortnightly rather than weekly to make therapy more affordable. In future, I hope to be able to lower my accessible rate and regularly review this every 3 months.
I can also accept referrals for anyone who has private insurance, currently -Â
- AXAÂ
- Aviva
- Vitality Health
Supervision
I offer clinical supervision or consultation for other counsellors, therapists and psychologists who would like to work with me. I don't currently offer a tiered system for my supervision practice, but have different fees for qualified and trainee practitioners:
Qualified fee
£60/hr
Trainee fee
£50/hr
As a supervisor, I draw on my experiences working in NHS complex trauma and neuropsychology services where I was involved in both individual and group therapies, group supervision, mindfulness and meditation groups (including Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction), and in complex assessments such as DIVA-5 for ADHD.Â
