Stephen Wood
About the Therapist
Hi! I am Stephen, a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor dedicated to providing affirming and inclusive therapy for the LGBTQ+ community.Â
How I Can Help
I understand that the LGBTQ community faces unique challenges. The struggle to find acceptance, and the day-to-day experience of discrimination, homophobia or transphobia can have a significant impact on mental health. Some common concerns include:
-
A lack of energy
-
A loss of enjoyment
-
Feeling lonely or isolated
-
Using alcohol, drugs or sex to cope
-
A lack of meaning or purpose
-
Suicidal thoughts
-
Self-harm
-
Depression
-
Anxiety and panic attacks
It may be that you wish to explore some of the concerns that I mention here, or you might just want to find a safe and accepting space to talk.
What Clients Say
"Literally life saving. I could come as my whole self and didn't have to explain or conform. I needed deep human connection, and a safe space to talk and explore - and I got it." (C)
"I wish I had known about it earlier." (D)
"I came away from each session feeling relaxed, calm and able to move forward. It is a testament to Stephen's ability to know what was needed moment by moment." (R)

My Approach
Integrative transpersonal therapy focuses on the connections between our inner world, our relationships, and the larger world around us. We will work collaboratively to create a safe and supportive space for you to explore your unique experience, and we will uncover the patterns and themes that may be contributing to your current challenges.
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches (Gestalt, psychodynamic, creative, transpersonal, existential). The aim is to deepen your understanding of yourself, build your inner resources and discover new insights that will support you to make meaningful changes in your life, and your relationships.
My Background
I have worked for many years in the field of personal and professional development. I have facilitated mental wellbeing programmes for organisations such as Human Rights Watch and Warner Music. I have also worked extensively with the LGBTQ+ community, providing therapeutic counselling at MindOut in Brighton.
My Online Practice
For people who prefer the convenience and flexibility of remote sessions, I offer online counselling. I use a secure online platform to ensure your privacy and safety, and I'm committed to providing the same level of care and attention as I do in person.
Flexible Timings
I offer both short term and open-ended work. Whatever you might be struggling with, you don't need to face it alone. I invite you to get in touch to arrange a free introductory chat.Â
