Thomas John Sobel
About the Therapist
My approach is integrative: I draw from different therapeutic models, but adapt the work to the person in front of me. We might focus on grounding and anxiety reduction, or go deeper into identity, attachment, or the emotional impact of past experiences. What matters is that it’s your process, not a standard protocol.
Therapy with me is collaborative. We’ll figure out what’s getting in your way — old beliefs, unprocessed hurt, relationships that shaped how you see yourself — and help you move towards a life that actually fits who you are now.
I provide a unique counselling experience for all of my clients. Using an integrative approach to each session, I am able to provide a truly bespoke service targeted to each person’s specific needs. Being an American expat living in the UK, I am able to provide this unique multi-cultural perspective while also offering targeted guidance to other expats.
I offer therapy that centres your identity, your relationships, and what actually matters to you:
• Coming-out (I prefer letting in) challenges and identity confusion.
• Self-esteem, shame and internalised stigma
• Anxiety, depression and feeling “not enough”
• Dating, intimacy and sex issues
• Queer relationships — monogamous, open, poly, or not sure
• Family conflict, religious/cultural pressure, rejection
• Life transitions: moves, breakups, career change
No performance. No judgment. Just a space to speak freely.
We work at your pace — but we move forward.
I am kink positive. I am non-monogamy/open relationship positive, and trans positive.

My approach to therapy is one that is integrated and individualised. Additionally, the spaces that I aim to create are non-judgemental supportive, and safe environments for all clients. Many of my clients, for example, are from the queer community, the American expat community, or the queer American expat community. I am a cis gender gay male.
