James O'Callaghan - Online
About the Therapist
My name is James (he/him). I'm a qualified integrative therapist practising both online with clients throughout the UK/internationally.
I hold a Level 7 (Masters level equivalent) Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Minster Centre, one of the longest established and leading integrative psychotherapy and counselling institutions in Europe. I am also a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their ethical framework. I previously volunteered with ELOP, a charity offering therapy by and for LGBTQIA+ people. I continue to volunteer for a low cost therapy service.
Prior to training as a therapist I spent many years running my own business alongside organising community based events and projects.
I have been in therapy myself and having had both good and bad experiences, I know how important it is to find the right fit. Finding the right therapist is a process, and you’re entitled to take the time it requires. I offer a free, no-obligation introductory call so you can get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.

We will work together to explore what brought you to therapy and to explore the changes you want in your life, working at a pace that feels right for you.
I believe the relationship between client and therapist is a key part of therapy. That means I am not only interested in the story you bring, but also in how it feels to share it with me. Working together we will pay attention to your experiences, your relationships, and the way you see yourself and the world. As time goes on, we may notice patterns that keep repeating in your life, or ways you’ve learned to hide or protect yourself.
Therapy can be a place to get to know yourself in new ways, and to find gentler, freer ways of being with yourself. That might mean easing feelings of anxiety or depression, working through past experiences, improving relationships, or simply having more space to breathe and be yourself.
I bring a particular awareness of how identity, belonging, and societal pressures can shape us. This is a space where you don’t need to leave parts of yourself at the door, where all of you is welcome. I also work affirmatively with neurodivergent clients (including ADHD and autism) and GSRD experience (gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity) - this includes LGBTQIA+, kink and BDSM, non-monogamy, and sex work, where questions of belonging, safety, and identity can sit under the surface of distress. I also recognise that the focuse of what you bring to therapy may have little to do with your neurodivergence, gender, sexuality, relationship setup, or lifestyle.
Sessions last for 50 minutes and we will meet at the same time each week. Committing to meeting weekly can feel daunting at first but it allows a sense of safety through consistency to be built. We can agree to work for a set number of sessions or we can work in an open ended way for as long as it feels useful for you.
