There are many misconceptions about therapy, but I think of it like this: you bring the things that are weighing on you, lay them out between us and, together, we’ll sort through them. Typically focusing on one issue at a time we will explore its many layers. Over time, we may uncover the underlying blocks that have been holding you back, preventing you from making the changes you desire in your life. Whether you’re facing a specific issue, feeling unhappy with your life at a more fundamental level, or seeking more meaning, I’m here to support you.

You didn’t expect your life to look this way. You’re numb, lonely, or overwhelmed. Distraction at work or doom-scrolling for hours at home has you worried about your mental health. You feel highly triggered by everyday occurrences and are shaken by your reactions.   You want to feel more confident and able to take greater social and career risks. You want to feel calmer and able to handle everyday stresses with greater ease.  

 Perhaps you are navigating a troubling time, that comes with difficult and unwelcome feelings such as anxiety, heartbreak, loneliness. Maybe a relationship is ending; you are in the shock of bereavement, a quarter or mid-life threshold, going through the menopause, experiencing loneliness.  Maybe you want to explore your identity and who you really are and this might feel risky. Or maybe you feel overwhelmed by the array of identities, and your own unknowing. Maybe you yearn for change, but it eludes you.   

I primarily work with intersectional identities and the difficulties that can come with these. My main areas of interest and experience are queer identities, gender (including cis, trans, non-binary, and those with DSD/intersex conditions), polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships, families with mixed ethnic and/or religious backgrounds, growing up as a third culture child, Kink/BDSM, disability/illness (including hidden), surviving domestic abuse, and difficult parented relationships. I also have a particular interest in the intersection of faith and sexuality/gender (especially Islam) and a lot of experience in supporting parents and partners of trans+ people through their unique and specific journeys.

I offer a warm, non-judgmental space for us to explore your problems. I have experience helping people struggling with anxiety, depression & relationship problems. I have particular experience supporting the LGBT+ community and men seeking therapy.

Hi, I’m Darren. I work with LGBTQ+ clients and their allies as a psychodynamic counsellor. My approach combines the deep, reflective thinking of psychoanalysis with a warm, supportive and collaborative counselling framework. As a queer therapist, I have a passion for supporting LGBTQ+ clients in working through life’s difficulties and challenges, and helping to drive meaningful and lasting change.
