Hello, I am Zalfa, a Counselling Psychologist. At the heart of my work, I strive to create a warm and empathetic space for individuals from all walks of life. I support clients facing a variety of challenges, including self-esteem issues, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and low mood. Additionally, I have substantial experience working with complex mental health difficulties such as complex trauma, substance misuse, and gender-based violence. My work within the NHS and various third-sector organisations have particularly centred on supporting the LGBTQI+ community and individuals affected by gendered violence. I am registered with the HCPC and BPS.
I am a Northern Irish LGBTQ+ affirmative counsellor, who works both short and long term with clients online. I am here to support you in navigating life’s challenges and working through patterns and behaviours which may be holding you back. I believe we all know within ourselves what is right for us but it can take time and understanding to be able to find this out. I won’t give you the answers – I believe you have them already within yourself. But I am here to work through your troubles and together, we can work towards getting you that brighter
Sometimes we might feel that things are just getting too much, or we want to look at something specific which is bothering us. Since the corona crisis we needed to adapt to a new “normal”. Feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, anxious, worn out, depressed and stressed are just some of the many ways we might react to what is happening around us and within us. I specialise in working with people from various backgrounds who are struggling with anxiety or depression. Much of my work involves exploring relationship issues, self-esteem, or the competing pressures of work and home. I know how hard it can be to open up, and I offer a space where you don’t have to put on a front. As a gay man, I understand how identity and minority stress can affect self-worth and mental health. I work integratively, tailoring my approach to suit your needs as therapy develops.
Welcome. Life can feel heavy or confusing, especially when you are carrying more than others realise. If you feel lost or stuck, therapy can offer space to slow down and reconnect with your true self. Reaching out takes courage, and even searching for the right therapist is already an act of self-care. I am proudly queer, and as a BACP registered and highly trained therapist I offer in person or online sessions, whatever works best for you. This is a confidential and fully accepting space to feel understood and move towards something lighter.
Starting therapy can evoke many different feelings and sometimes takes a lot of courage. I wanted to start by acknowledging that, and commend you on being here. As a therapist I see my role as facilitating a unique space for you to make sense of your life. During sessions you can explore whatever comes up, and we will work together to understand your inner world better.
I’m a human first, therapist second. Life is messy. I don’t pretend to have it all figured out, and I don’t expect you to either. Therapy with me isn’t about ‘having the answers.’ It’s about having a space where you can be real, without judgement or pressure. I mainly work with adults who are dealing with things like trauma, family or relationship struggles, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and people-pleasing.
Choosing to begin therapy is a meaningful step. It offers time to pause, reflect, and speak freely about your inner and outer world in a confidential space where you are truly listened to. My specialty is working with individuals looking for deeper meaning and possibility in their lives, perhaps questioning their sense of belonging and life choices. I welcome people from all walks of life, with a particular sensitivity to experiences of difference and otherness. Therapy can hold whatever feels important to you. Questions around identity, purpose, or direction can arise for anyone, regardless how you move through the world.
