My name is Matthew, I am a qualified integrative therapist working in-person in London, and online across the UK. My professional journey began in 2009 through completion of a certificate course in counselling skills and I have since graduated from a BSc (Hons) in Counselling, a degree accredited by the BACP where I am also a registered member.  My dissertation project was about the psychotherapeutic experiences of men engaged in chemsex, an area of particular interest to me.  I also have interest in the relationship between sexuality and religion, an area I hold developmental training for.

My counselling journey started a decade ago, not as a qualified counsellor, but as a client. By offering a judgment free space and the opportunity to be vulnerable, my therapist supported me on my journey of self-acceptance. It is on that connection between counsellor and client that I base my work. In my humanistic approach to therapy I believe that my clients are the experts of themselves. What would you like to talk about today? It’s a common enough starting point in counselling sessions, but it is rarely a question with an easy answer. I offer sessions at Brixton, London Bridge and via Google Meet, offering short-term and long-term counselling, and offer a free half-hour initial appointment.

I am experienced and easy to talk to, and work with empathy and acceptance of difference, and the struggles we face in being human. This is my foundation as a psychotherapist. My focus is on appreciating each person’s emotional landscape, and attending to aspects that may be causing difficulty. I have identified as lesbian/gay/queer since I was 20 and lived as part of London’s diverse queer scene since then.
