About the Therapist
Hi there, welcome and thank you for your visit.
My name is Bonnie, I am a queer, bilingual Clinical Psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College London (HCPC registration number: PYL043766). With work experiences in public health, non-profit, and academic settings in Hong Kong, United Kingdom, and Canada, I aim to support you in achieving your goals and addressing a wide range of mental health concerns using evidence-based therapy frameworks.
In my practice, I prioritise creating an empowering and collaborative environment. Together, we will co-create a safe and compassionate space where you can comfortably unpack and explore your life's challenges in a guided, supported manner. My aim is for this space to be a sanctuary where you can leave some of the burdens you carry, allowing me to help lighten your load as you journey through change and personal growth. Whether your needs are for a brief series of discussions or a more sustained therapeutic relationship, I am here to adapt to your pace and needs. I offer therapy in both English and Cantonese for further flexibility.
The heart of my interaction with you is holding deep respect and humility in understanding your life experiences, cultural influences, and intersecting identities. I am committed to creating an environment where you feel comfortable and safe to express yourself and explore the ways in which I can offer you meaningful support on your journey toward healing and personal growth. If you are ready to take the next step in your journey, or if you are simply curious to learn more about how we can work together, I warmly invite you to reach out. Together, we can explore the possibilities of transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and resilience. I am here to listen, understand, and walk with you towards a more empowered and fulfilled life.
Looking forward to the possibility of working together.

My clinical expertise includes supporting individuals of all genders and sexual orientations in addressing a diverse range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, shame or guilt, low self-esteem/self-worth, adverse childhood or early life experiences, interpersonal problems, major life changes, issues related to living with chronic/life-limiting/terminal illnesses.
I also have extensive experience in working with individuals living with HIV at one of Europe's largest HIV clinics, adults and young people struggling with their gender identity and sexuality or related issues such as discrimination and prejudice, those undergoing a variety of gender affirmation processes, and people who would like to reduce their chem use in the context of chemsex.
My therapeutic approach integrates various empirically-supported treatment frameworks. I utilise Narrative Therapy to understand the themes, influences, and rules in your life story; third-wave frameworks like Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to cultivate wellbeing and value-driven living; and psychodynamic principles to explore how your early life and childhood experiences impact your current life. I also incorporate mindfulness and psychoeducation into my practice to help strengthen your ability to be attentive of your mental health and manage your distress.
I believe in bringing my authentic self into therapy – warm, supportive, and approachable. It is my firm belief that therapy should not only strive for distress relief but also self-discovery, resilience, and personal growth that extend beyond the course of therapy.
Understanding the importance of transparency and relatability in therapy, I am open to discussing my intersecting identities if it aids in your search for a suitable therapist. I am conscious of the power dynamics in the therapist-client relationship, and I strive to balance professionalism with genuine warmth and openness.
Beyond clinical practice, I am actively engaged in research, aiming to deepen our collective understanding of how best to support LGBTQ+ individuals. Recognising that current research on bereavement support for LGBTQ+ people is mostly focused on monogamous same-sex couples, and hoping to encompass a more diverse range of relationships, I initiated a project to explore LGBTQ+ individuals' access to bereavement support following significant losses. I am also passionate about supporting newly migrated, queer Hong Kongers in finding appropriate mental health support, and have created a bilingual website to help facilitate this.
My published masters dissertation is on the journeys of sexual assault survivors, and my doctoral thesis is on the psychological experiences of Hong Kong people during the 2019 Anti-Extradition Bill Movement and their coping strategies.Â
