Dr Alex Thomas
About the Therapist
I am a HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist, Chartered Psychologist, and registered member of the BACP. I work with adults online throughout the UK and in person in London.
Before becoming a psychologist, I spent many years in the corporate sector. My own experience of navigating significant life challenges and engaging in therapy led me to change direction and pursue a career helping others. The support I received during that period showed me the value of having a therapist who could offer both compassion and challenge, and that remains central to how I work today.
I work integratively, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Schema Therapy, psychodynamic thinking, and existential approaches. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, helping you understand both the immediate challenges you face and the deeper patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
Whether you are seeking support with a specific difficulty or looking for a space to better understand yourself, therapy can offer an opportunity for meaningful and lasting change. My hope is that together we can help you build a life that feels more authentic, connected, and fulfilling.

I have extensive experience supporting LGBTQIA+ clients in both NHS and private practice settings. Alongside working with anxiety, trauma, burnout, addiction, relationship difficulties, grief, and low self-esteem, I have particular experience supporting people around gender identity and exploration, HIV, chemsex, sexual wellbeing, minority stress, shame, and the impact of stigma and discrimination.
Many of the people I work with are highly capable and successful in their lives but privately struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, loneliness, relationship difficulties, or a sense that they have lost touch with themselves. Others come to therapy at moments of significant change, whether that involves exploring identity, navigating relationships, processing trauma, addressing addictive behaviours, or finding a way through a difficult period.
My style is warm, active, and collaborative. I believe therapy works best when there is a genuine human connection, and clients often tell me they value having a therapist who is approachable, thoughtful, and willing to engage honestly with difficult subjects. I aim to create a space where you can speak openly without fear of judgement and where all aspects of your identity and experience are welcome.
