Hi, I’m Dilya, a qualified counsellor based in London. I offer counselling services both online and in-person, with locations in Bromley and Beckenham (South East London). I specialise in supporting individuals through significant identity changes, such as parenthood, pregnancy, immigration, marriage, divorce, and LGBTQIA+ identity. Within these themes, I work through challenges incl. fertility journeys, miscarriage, termination, LGBTQIA+ issues incl. parenting, coming out, loss of meaning, mixed ethnicity, ‘third country kid’, assimilation struggles, feeling excluded, spirituality and loneliness. I also work with the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals from Asian, Black, mixed-race, Muslim, Orthodox Christian, and other diverse backgrounds.

I’m a psychodynamic psychotherapist specialising in Gender, Sex/Sexual and Relationship Diversity, including LGBTQ+ identities. My approach is a carefully weighted balance of support and challenge, of grounded care and gentle nudging: I am not a therapist who just sits there quietly and nods, nor do I tell you what to do or how you should be. Instead, I will help you understand yourself better and, through that, make better sense of your difficulties. I am committed to helping you explore what makes you you without telling you what to do or making you feel like you ought to be different.

LGBTQ+ Affirmative, Addiction and Trauma Informed.   My approach is psychodynamic, meaning that we will work in a way which explores links between past and present relationships and experiences. In particular, I can help you to explore how the impact of the past has led to the development of unconscious, repetitive patterns in the different parts of your life such as intimate relationships and work, which may have become unhelpful.  By becoming aware of these parts of yourself that may be hidden, more informed choices can be made and life can be experienced from a place of increased emotional freedom.

You are the expert on your own life, so I won’t begin by assuming how you might be feeling or the kinds of worries you may be grappling with. My role is to sit alongside you and help you notice, clarify and make sense of what might be happening for you – internally, with the people in your life and in the world around you.
