I am gay white cisgender male, and a clinical psychologist by training.  I offer psychological therapy for individuals, couples and families in-person and online.  I have been working in mental health for 20 years in both clinical practice and research.  My training and experience have allowed me to work across the mental health and relational spectrum, however I specialise in working with trauma and developmental trauma and I am passionate about bringing my knowledge and skills to psychotherapy work with GSRD people.

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons, be it loss, separation, addiction, childhood neglect, abusive relationships, struggles with finding the right partner, identity, loneliness, anxiety, depression and others. It can be daunting to know where to start in finding a therapist. I believe one of the most important things is how you feel when you’re with them. Developing a secure base together to which to explore from is an important starting point. It can help to have a couple of sessions to begin with to see how you feel.

I offer individual psychotherapy sessions for adults. I offer in-person work in London and Brighton clinics. I also see clients online via Zoom. I am curious and compassionate, spending my career exploring how people make sense of themselves and their experiences. Central to this is how we are shaped by external, psychosocial influences that intertwine with our internal, psychological sense of ourselves. This ever-changing interplay shapes what we think is possible for ourselves and is at the heart of my clinical work.

I’m a qualified and registered psychodynamic therapist, holding a Master’s in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, a rigorous three-year training programme. While my initial training was with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. My name is Matthew (he/him) and I offer support for anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues. My specialisation is working with people who are LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent including ADHD and ASC, however, I offer a warm welcome to all.
