At the risk of feeling old, I have worked in mental health services for almost 20 years.  I enjoy working within the LGBTQIA+ and Neurodivergent community and find it some of my most rewarding experiences. I’m Lou, a queer MNCPS Accredited therapist working with adults of all sexual and gender identities, and with both mainstream and more alternative lifestyles and beliefs. I have been working with LGBTQ+ clients for 13 years and have supported clients with a variety of issues, especially around identity and gaining deeper self-knowledge, around marginalisation and navigating life in a heteronormative capitalist society, and also on major life changes and emotional literacy. 

What would you like to talk about today? It’s a common enough starting point in counselling sessions, but it is rarely a question with an easy answer. I offer sessions at Brixton, London Bridge and via Google Meet, offering short-term and long-term counselling, and offer a free half-hour initial appointment.

I am a counsellor working from rooms in Holborn/Chancery Lane and Hackney. I also provide counselling online. The largest part of my work is with Queer / LGBTQ+ clients, and I have previously worked with two LGBTQ+ organisations (Switchboard and East London Out Project). I have had additional specialist training from Gendered Intelligence and Pink Therapy. My core training is in humanistic counselling so I am trained in a range of approaches, but primarily practice using gestalt therapy. I am committed to a trans-affirming, queer-affirming, anti-racist approach.

Race, gender, sexuality, culture and family history all affect our sense of self. If you are struggling with your identity, talking about things may help. As a result of my lived experience and training, I specialise in issues around identity and offer a safe space for you to explore what is getting in the way of you leading the life you want to lead. I’m a gay man, and counsellor in London, I know for me, having a queer therapist allowed me to feel I was met in a special way, heard and held with familiarity of experience while still holding our difference.
