Hi, I’m Ben, a qualified psychodynamic counsellor offering LGBTQ+ affirmative, sex-positive therapy online and in person in Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, overthinking, and relationship or intimacy difficulties. I welcome queer, gay, neurodivergent and gender-diverse clients, and those exploring sexuality, identity, non-monogamy, boundaries and communication. I also have particular sensitivity to shame, stigma and power, including experience supporting current and former sex workers. Together we explore unconscious patterns, attachment and early experiences so you can feel more grounded, confident and connected to yourself and others.

I am Luan (pronunciation: rhymes with Ewan); a non-binary trans masc BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Supervisor working online and in Leicester. I specialise in working with LGBTQIA+ clients and those impacted by early separation and/or trauma. I have substantial experience of working with Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diverse (GSRD) clients in 17 years post qualification experience.  I also offer supervision and consultancy to individuals working with GSRD clients. 

I’m an Integrative Psychotherapist and trainee Art Therapist. I work in person and online. I have over eight years of experience working in the NHS and non-profits, supporting people predominantly from the Global Majority, members of the LGBTQIA+ community and neurodivergent individuals.   

I believe that a warm, genuine and non-judgmental relationship is the most important element of any therapy and at the very heart of the way I approach working with my clients and this can be especially important for those who may have faced rejection, misunderstanding, hostility or isolation in other parts of their lives.  What you bring to therapy may not relate directly to your gender or sexuality, but being able to talk in a space where you are understood and accepted for who you are, makes it easier to explore the issues that matter to you.

Counselling/Psychotherapy can help us understand better how we behave, what motivates us, and how past experiences can affect current behaviour. By expressing whatever is uppermost in our mind, feelings, thoughts, wishes, fears, memories and dreams can be explored within the safety of the therapeutic relationship. The aim being to enable us to find more appropriate ways of coping with our difficulties and to bring about changes in our thinking, feeling and behaviour. Through exploration therapy hopes to enable us to live a more fulfilling life and reach our full potential in the face of life’s limitations.
