Hello! My name is Janine. I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I provide therapy to adults and young people over 18 years old. I have a Masters with distinction in Integrative Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy which means I strictly adhere to their ethical code of conduct. I have previously worked with individuals as a relationship counsellor for Let’s Talk Relationships (formerly Relate Bradford & Leeds) where I received training in couples therapy for depression.    

Originally from the United States, I have over a decade of experience practicing with adults and young adults in a variety of settings: hospitals, inpatient psychiatry, community-based mental health charities, LGBTQIA+ clinics, and private practice. I have trained and practiced in both the US and the UK, the latter where I’m currently a member of East London Relationship Therapy (ELRT) in Hackney. I originally received my Master’s degree in the US as a Clinical Social Worker, where I studied and practiced psychotherapy from a social justice perspective in marginalized, largely immigrant communities in the Boston area.

My name is Jack Pijl and I was born in The Netherlands. I’ve lived in London since 2002 where I was able to come out as a gay man. I converted my career to become a psychotherapist to predominantly work with gay men to help them with the particular struggles this client group has. A great book by Walt Odets, ‘Out of the Shadows: the psychology of gay men’s lives’, made a great impression on me personally and professionally. I have been able to help many of my clients to make meaning of their often difficult journeys and stories.

Accepting new clients as space permits for weekday morning/afternoon appointments | Areas of specialty include low self-esteem, family of origin issues, childhood relational trauma, ADHD, difficulties with assertiveness, and exploration of sexual orientation and gender identity. I work frequently with individuals who identify with the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities. My therapeutic approach is integrative, fundamentally humanistic, and tailored to the needs of each individual.

UKCP accredited, BACP registered Integrative Psychotherapist in Islington, Borough and online. I work with clients of all genders and sexualities, and my practice is kink- and poly/ethical non-monogamy friendly. I have substantial experience of working with neurodivergent clients, especially ADHD and/or autistic adults.
